If you had the power to create a new life, would you use it? When I was fifteen years old in high school, in my biology class, we had to read one chapter about heredity and evolution, and I was fascinated by how scientists created Dolly the sheep from a cell from Finn Dorset's mammary gland with biotechnology so they could clone it. This is one of my first steps in this area of science, and I have been fascinated since that moment with biotechnology and its implications in different areas. I think that was a reason that made me decide to study medicine. In this essay, the first topic I'll share with you is what biotechnology is; the second, some of my experiences using biotechnology.; and finally, I'll share why I am fascinated with biotechnology.
Biotechnology is an area of science that uses technology in living organisms or parts of them with the objective of developing or creating different products. It has a lot of implications in different areas of the world. When I was doing my internship in the Gestar Clinic, the embryologist said to me that he has been doing in vitro fertilization on their own cows and bulls to make them better; with stronger muscles, which is the result of some mutation in their ADN. Also, he made his own grass to feed their animals with biotechnology, so he said it was cheaper to feed their animals because the more he fed them, the healthier they would be.
I remember when I was eight years old. I spent time in the agronomy laboratory at the University of San Carlos because my father was working there. He explained to me how we can create better corn and told me that a few factories, such as "Monsanto" use technology to improve the quality of some vegetables. Well, in my career, the embryo-transfer was an awesome experience, starting with the simple thing of seeing an intracytoplasmic sperm injection, then seeing the development of an embryo, and finally seeing an embryo biopsy. I was wondering about how much power we have in our hands to create or destroy a life.

My obsession with biotechnology began with the Dolly sheep. I did research on that because I didn’t believe that was possible. At this moment, some research about clones is so interesting because some scientists are making clones with extension animals to create new species of animals. Also, in my career, the robotic-powered prostheses are so incredible because, if you think about it, it's like, "You are not a human; one part of you is a robot." So, that kind of thing is so exciting, and it is very helpful for people without one extremity. Another topic is artificial intelligence in medicine, because it can help to make a better decision and take and improve an image with the objective of helping a doctor make the best decision.
Well, in conclusion, biotechnology will improve our lives every year, and I think it is essential in our lives because it is implicated in agriculture, medicine, and veterinary medicine, and those areas are important to have a better quality of life and the development of a country.
